ISP's and governments all over the world block access to IP phones. In most cases, the reason is because they want to drive telephone traffic to the local service provider. This is very lucrative for them, as the rates from these telephone companies (often State owned) are quite high. They use IP phone blocking (VOIP blocking) to prevent calls from going through. They do this by first blocking access to signup sites entirely. In addition, by filtering the traffic passing through their network, they can determine what traffic is IP phone traffic and block it on the fly. However, the
techniques they use to do this can easily be bypassed through the
use of a personal VPN to
unblock Skype, Vonage and all other
IP phones. The personal VPN works on your desktop or laptop PC and will easily unblock Skype and other IP phone providers when using soft phones on your computer. Many people prefer to use actual IP phones for their service. For this application, a VPN Router is the answer. The Router is a standard Router that has been specially modified to automatically connect to the VPN service. Everything plugged into it's Ethernet ports or connected through it's wireless access point is passed through the VPN tunnel. Just plug your Ethernet based IP phone into the back of the device and your phone acts as if it's plugged into an open network in the USA. If you want to use a standard phone, all you need to do is get the converter the IP phone providers sell. The converter plugs into the appliance and the phone plugs into the converter. VPN VISA is our recommended choice for VPN service. They offer both a personal VPN service and a VPN Router. Their service is known for providing multiple ports to connect to and both the UDP and TCP protocol. What this means is that they are able to get past the common tricks that ISP's use to block such services. They also change their IP addresses all the time and never reuse them. This means that ISP's that try to block access by blocking IP addresses will have a difficult time stopping this VPN traffic.
